I’m Ania, an IBCLC in private practice and the creator of Lactation Directory
I want to share a little bit about how I got here. I have a background in nursing and began my lactation career like most of us, through personal experience with nursing my two children all while simultaneously finishing nursing school.Â
Owning a private practice had been something that I had always dreamed of.Â
I vividly remember the struggles of starting out: I was so clueless, trying one thing after another, having no true vision or business plan, no business and marketing skills. I was running around aimlessly in the dark hoping that something would eventually work. Over the years, I’ve invested a small fortune in courses and programs with the goal of growing my practice. Branding, video-making skills, and creating funnels to grow my audience and mailing list were just a few of the skills I learned along the way that I hadn’t had before. Finally giving me the push that I needed to elevate my practice to the vision I had always imagined. I found myself really enjoying finding solutions to my business obstacles, streamlining processes and mastering new technologies that helped me grow and work in the most efficient way. Â
I never imagined that one day I would feel ready to share what I’ve learned throughout the last years as a business owner with my colleagues, but I found myself more and more often helping others find solutions in their businesses and begin to wonder how I can contribute to the lactation field at large.
The arrival of my fourth child was a turning point, prompting me to reevaluate my priorities and focus more on family, and shift my focus from growing my own practice to supporting new lactation professionals on their journey.Â
During the spring of last year, I stumbled upon a significant gap within IBCLE statistical data, as well as the surprising absence of an all-encompassing lactation directory where I could find providers or get an idea of the number of IBCLC’s in the US. My frustration with the lack of support from our governing organization, grew stronger, and I felt the need to find some way to fill that void.Â
